How we tested

  • Bought all three at full retail. No review units, no sponsorships.
  • Same trio in every unit: Genovese basil, buttercrunch lettuce, curly parsley.
  • Identical room (68–72°F, no extra daylight), 16-hour light schedule.
  • Weighed total edible harvest at week 8 — leaves and stems, no roots.

Yield: AeroGarden wins, iDOO is closer than you'd think

The Harvest 360's deeper reservoir and wraparound LED produced the densest canopy and the heaviest cut at 312g. The iDOO's twelve pods came in at 286g — impressive given the price — though plants were a touch leggier under its less-even light. Click & Grow trailed at 240g; the smaller pods and lower-wattage panel are the bottleneck.

Ease of use

Click & Grow is hands-down the most hands-off. Pre-seeded soil pods, two-week water reservoir, no nutrients to mix. AeroGarden is close behind but you'll mix liquid nutrients every 2–3 weeks. iDOO requires the most attention: you supply seeds, sponges, and nutrients, and the water-level indicator is just a clear strip rather than a sensor.

Noise

Click & Grow has no pump — it's silent. AeroGarden's pump is audible from across a quiet room but disappears under any kitchen noise. iDOO's pump cycles a couple times an hour; not loud, but you'll notice it in a bedroom.

12-month cost of ownership

Assuming you grow continuously for a year and refill pods:

  • AeroGarden Harvest 360: $129 + ~$180 in pods/nutrients = $309/year.
  • Click & Grow Smart Garden 9: $249 + ~$210 in pods = $459/year.
  • iDOO 12-Pod: $89 + ~$60 in seeds/nutrients/sponges = $149/year.

Use your own seeds with the AeroGarden "Grow Anything" baskets and you'll knock about $100 off that number too.

Which should you actually buy?

If we could only keep one, it's the AeroGarden Harvest 360 — best mix of yield, ease, and price. Buying for someone with a beautiful kitchen who'd never tolerate "appliance aesthetic"? Click & Grow, every time. On the tightest budget but want real volume? iDOO is the clear answer.

Frequently asked questions

Which has the lowest running cost?

iDOO, by a wide margin — about $149/year vs $309 for AeroGarden and $459 for Click & Grow once you include pods and nutrients.

Can I use my own seeds in all three?

AeroGarden and Click & Grow both sell refillable 'grow anything' baskets. iDOO ships with reusable sponges by default — bring any seed.

Which is quietest?

Click & Grow — no pump at all. iDOO and AeroGarden both have audible pumps, with AeroGarden's cycling less often.

Which has the best app?

None of these three has a particularly good app. If app control matters, look at Gardyn or LetPot instead.
